This week was full of adventure. Actually, most of it occurred on Thursday. In the morning (technically the afternoon, but when you don't go to sleep until 5 am, noon is still early) I started as a reader for 580 split, a lit journal produced out of Mills. Then my friends Samantha and Arik came up from the Peninsula to visit. Karen joined us along the way, and we went exploring. We ended up in the Mountain View Cemetery at dusk, on a hill overlooking the entire bay. It was an absolutely gorgeous view. As it grew darker we wound our way through the assorted mausoleums; funereal architecture is fascinating, and there was a wide variety of styles there. We found the Civil War section of the graveyard, as well as one of the oldest mausoleums. By the time we got back to the entrance, all the gates were locked. We had to jump a stone wall. It wasn't too hard, but Arik had to practically haul me off in a fireman's hold. There was a sign outside the gates advertising guided tours, and we were briefly excited about the idea of flashlight tours through the cemetery, but the tour was really for the chapel next door. Oh well.
