From the file of rejected children's books based on fairy tales.
I learned how to use Illustrator. Previously, I’d try one line with the pen tool and get fed up. It’s amazing how much easier the program is to use when you actually know how the tools work. I had so much fun playing around, I wrote a short comic so I’d have a legitimate reason to waste all my free time messing around with Illustrator.

Two bits of news:
First of all I finally have my website up. Much of it is still under construction, but hopefully there is enough art on it to satisfy anyone who cares to look, so please go check it out.
Second of all I would like to point everyone who may be reading this in the direction of Sequential Art Gallery where I will be participating in a group show opening Thursday, December 4th. If you are in the Portland area anytime in December please go check it out. I’m afraid I’ll be stuck in San Francisco for the opening reception (finals won’t be trifled with it seems) but many of the other artists will be so go check it out.

My esteemed colleague, Pogorelov and I are both willing slaves to the devil Tobacco so both of our apartments are usually adrift with the blank matchbooks the give out at liquor stores when you buy your cigarettes here in San Francisco.
But we are a classy people! A Creative people! We can’t be seen hanging off of fire escapes lighting our fags with blank matchbooks! How pedestrian!
So my dear Pogorelov saw fit to create a pair of stunning Bold Riley themed matchbooks! Witness!

Bold Riley and Galliroh grace this one.

Jahretta the Cunning features on this on. Meanwhile, Pogorelov and his lump of a ginger tabby, Grimm muscle in on my photo op.

Get your vote on and read some Bold Riley! One new page of the prologue and four new pages of Serpent in the Belly.
Also, check out the new couscous look. Okay, it’s not much of a change, but I’m happy we finally got the group shot (mostly) finished.

Last night we got The Wicked Temple minis printed! They look really good for photocopies, and Kinko’s did the job while we waited, even though one of the files was humongous and took about half an hour to open. We also printed some copies of Elena’s story Alphonse, about the snail-herding cockroach. They are on slime green paper and look super cute! I’m actually really impressed that we got everything done last night. I had visions of us wandering Kinko’s in an exhausted, freaked-out haze on Saturday morning.
I hope we see you at APE on Saturday. If you can’t make it, I’ll have The Wicked Temple pages up. If I have a chance, I’ll make a page for the Alphonse too. I’ll probably also post photos of us deliriously folding and stapling on Halloween.

Leia drew an awesome image for a Bold Riley promotional postcard, but we were a little worried they wouldn’t get here on time. They just got arrived and they look great! Come visit us at APE to check them out. I’ll post an image on Saturday for those who are geographically challenged.
Also in Bold Riley news, a little bird tells me Wicked Temple is done! Well, the drawing part anyway. Now it’s my turn to letter like mad. The full story will be online this weekend, and you can also buy a mini (fingers crossed!) at the couscous table at APE.

Four more pages of Serpent in the Belly are up! The excitement is mounting, and not just because APE is around the corner.

How very Shakespearean

Our group shot is almost complete! This is very exciting, since I’ve wanted to do this since Stumptown.

I’ve also got the first 9 pages of Wicked Temple up! Yes, these pages are up elsewhere on the internets, but not lettered by me. In fact, I’ve got up to page 17 ready to go, minus pages 10-11 and 15, which suffered a tragic scanner accident. As soon as I get the files, I’ll upload the rest of the pages for your enjoyment.

Riley wishes the Blue God had given her an umbrella too.

Check it out, the first four pages of the Bold Riley Vol 1. prologue are up! I had a fight with the internet, because the images weren’t displaying and I couldn’t figure out why. Eventually, after going over the config file a few time, I found the stupid typo. Arg! Anyway, the internet and I are friends again.
